What is the design system?
Design system for a digital product is the core element of a proper product design process. In simple words, it’s a progressive library of all components and styles your interface is built from. If your current UI/UX design agency vs in-house designer don’t deliver the proper design system – they simply need more time to deliver the new screens and flows, and there is also a quite strong chance to start loosing design consistency on a long run.
We work on the design systems in parallel while working on the UI/UX design of the whole product. You may also meet the atomic design definition, which is basically the general idea that explains the design systems essence.
Another benefit of the design systems in UI/UX process is the design handoff process to developers team. In short, UI kit and Styleguide become a single source of truth for both UI/UX design team and development team. It really speeds up the process, simplifies change management and helps to avoid many typical implementation issues.
Do you have experience in UI/UX design for SaaS products?
Definitely yes. SaaS is one of the primary domains for Metacarbon, as the UI/UX design company. Glorify is probably one of best examples so far. Also, we have strong SaaS design experience in proptech, online education and productivity domains.
Do you work with early phase startups?
Yes, as the UI/UX and product design company we work with early stage startups. Basically, the sooner you decide to set up a proper product design process – the better. Here at Metacarbon we usually start from either the rapid prototyping phase to nail down the relevant UI/UX concepts for the user testing, or if you are already pretty sure in the product design scope to be done – we start from the requirements elicitation and estimation session to build the roadmap and kick off the cooperation in a predictable way.
How do you organize the collaboration process with the product teams?
We believe typical UI/UX agency approach where you have a bunch of project managers and middleman roles between the product team and product design team just doesn’t work. This is why we integrate our product designers into your product team as close as possible. That means the daily direct communication with the hands-on designers, daily standups and same project management environment as your whole product team uses. The UI/UX firm should be your native product team extension, not the separate unit that shows up on bi-weekly design demo days only.
Most UI/UX design agencies fall in love with their first ideas and don’t want to iterate. How about you?
We don’t fall in love with the first ideas. More UI/UX design iterations means more chances to hit the right solution. When we enter the ongoing cooperation phase, we tend to work within the iterative design sprints approach, which means “iteration → internal feedback → iteration → user testing → iteration → finalization”, so your comments and straightforward feedback sessions are more than welcome within the UI/UX design process.
Do you help with product redesign?
As the product design firm, UI/UX redesign is one of the core streams we focus on. Check out Glorify, Maekersuite, Koala and Bookis case studies to get a better idea on how we structure the product redesign process. Some UI/UX design agencies may advise you to come up with a groundbreaking approach on the redesign no matter what. However, here at Metacarbon we tend to analyze the core problems in your product design legacy before proposing the new approaches. In some cases we design the new user interfaces and experiences from scratch. Sometimes, we do a tender UI facelifting in order to keep your visual tone of voice unchanged while paying deeper attention to the UX patterns, navigational approaches and layout architecture.
Are you the web design agency?
We are the product design firm, digital product design company or the UI/UX firm if you like 🙂 That means we work with the web apps design, mobile apps design, digital product redesign campaigns and yes, we design the marketing websites. However, we usually do that for our longterm clients as the part of the product design sprints, along with other marketing design deliverables like credit cards design, social media assets, etc.
